SMD Hydrovision (SMDH) is proud to announce the sale of a Construction Class WROV (Workclass Remotely Operated Vehicle) system to QinetiQ for range maintenance and torpedo recovery tasks. The ROV called the QUANTUM is part of the new Q-Series range of Work Class vehicles being developed by SMDH and is the fully re-engineered successor to the Venom Work Class ROV.

The vehicle will be a showcase for the latest generation CURVETECH ROV components including new high performance HTE 380BA thrusters, intelligent valve packs and versatile IVECS control system. As well as the ROV, SMDH will design and manufacture the complete spread including the control cabin, umbilical winch and launch system. The system will be installed onboard the R.M.A.S. Warden mooring vessel on the Ministry of Defence range at the Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland.

Other WROV systems available from the SMDH Q-Series range include the QUASAR medium size WROV system and QUARK ultra light WROV system. The QUASAR is suitable for drill support and survey applications while QUARK offers real hydraulic power for thrust and tooling in a package little bigger than most electric ROV systems.

SMD Hydrovision is the world’s largest independent manufacturer of subsea vehicles. Based in Newcastle, England and formed in 1971, our extensive portfolio includes the design and manufacture of Work Class ROV systems, Subsea Tractors, Jetters, Ploughs and bespoke underwater machines. The Curvetech component range of underwater propulsion and control products are also designed and manufactured by SMDH.
