Final acceptance by UKHO of Hydrographic Database ProjectProject team members EDS (an HP company), CARIS and LSC Group are proud to announce the final acceptance by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) of the Hydrographic Database (HDB) Project.

Through the HDB Project, EDS and CARIS have delivered workflow management technologies from EDS together with CARIS Bathy DataBASE and CARIS Hydrographic Production Database (HPD) software to manage and create paper and electronic chart products. This combined solution will represent an enterprise production environment where multiple products are created and updated from a centrally managed source.

The bid phase for the project began in November of 2004 and was awarded to EDS and CARIS in October 2006, as a result of a competitive demonstrator phase.

"The successful acceptance of the system concludes an important development program for our team," said Sara Cockburn, Manager of the Special Projects Group at CARIS. "We are very proud of this outcome and are delighted with the success of the system as a whole. It allows CARIS to continue to demonstrate its competence and reliability as a partner, not only in the delivery of production-ready solutions, but in the implementation of systems delivered for specialized hydrographic processes."

Using the new system, data is stored in a common database and shared by products, providing a higher degree of consistency between product types. This unique workflow-oriented and database-driven approach to data management and production will bring significant business benefits to the UKHO in production optimization and efficiency.
