During weather sensitive preparatory works, the end section of the Solitaire's pipe delivery equipment was damaged. Allseas' pipelaying vessel Solitaire is working in Irish waters on Shell's Corrib project.
The Solitaire vessel has now returned to Killybegs where a full assessment of the damage is underway. At this stage it is not clear what impact the damage to the vessel will have on the 2008 offshore works programme which would still require a suitable weather window.
The Irish Times reports that the stinger of the pipelaying vessel became detached. The 100m long stinger was recovered but needs to be reattached before operations can continue. It is likely the repair work will need to be carried out in Rotterdam, which may take a few months.
Shell has hinted it may call off pipelaying operations off the Co Mayo coast for the winter.
