Yard number 279 from Ulstein Verft was delivered to Island Offshore 23 May, and it will be named Saturday 24 May.
"The vessel was ordered when the shipbuilding market was very busy. Therefore, we are impressed that Ulstein again manages to keep to the delivery schedule. We have a responsibility towards our customers, and we are glad to be able to offer them the vessel for disposal according to the agreements", comments Håvard Ulstein.
The managing director of Ulstein Verft, Karsten Sævik, thanked the Ulstein employees for the efforts in building the Island Constructor in an internal meeting Friday.

Our employees have both the freedom and the will to think new, and together with shipowners like Island Offshore we also get to make these novel concepts a reality," says Ulstein Group deputy CEO Tore Ulstein. Island Offshore is also the first company to install the new IP-based ULSTEIN COM system from Ulstein Elektro. The solution contains new functions like a TV-based portal for a number of services such as television, radio, information from other vessels and from the office ashore, safety information and visuals from surveillance cameras. In addition, the infrastructure is completely different from the earlier ULSTEIN COM, so it will be cheaper and easier to expand the system later.
The 120-metre-long, 25.5-metre-wide ship is a construction and well intervention vessel of ULSTEIN SX121 type and is designed by Ulstein Design. By volume, this vessel is nearly three times the size of the ULSTEIN X-BOW vessels previously delivered. The 380-square-metre wheelhouse is built at Ulstein Verft´s division at Vanylven. The ship is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system driving two azimuth main propellers, two swing-up compass thrusters and two tunnel thrusters. The vessel is equipped, built and certified according to IMO class III for dynamic positioning, which ensures the best sea-going characteristics during both sailing and DP manoeuvring.
The Island Constructor's main activities will be well intervention with the Subsea Lubricator System for light well intervention (LWI), subsea construction and equipment installation with an optical character verification system (OCV) and inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR). In addition, the ship is equipped with a heave-compensated tower for module handling and will also be able to conduct ROV operations.
