SMD are delighted to have hosted the official opening of their new £1.75m office development on the site of their Turbinia manufacturing and assembly facility.
80 invited guests joined the SMD team to celebrate the occasion. The official opening was conducted by Councillor Jim Allan, Deputy Mayor of North Tyneside.
SMD's Managing Director, John Reece commented, "It has been a long-standing ambition of mine to house all of our 135 employees on a single site. We have a wonderful, well-equipped campus with room for further expansion. In total we have invested £2.75m re-developing the Turbinia site. As well as the new main office we have improved the main assembly hall and added a new stores building, a new client and production office, a new canteen and support services office, a modern training facility with simulator and new wet test facility. This forms an important part of the general redevelopment of the banks of the Tyne to become a centre of excellence for subsea and marine technology."
Deputy Mayor, Jim Allan commented, "SMD is a world class, hi-tech company and a leader in their field. I look forward to SMD and North Tyneside working together in the future to not only build on their success so far, but also to help the development of a modern manufacturing industry in North Tyneside and here on the banks of the River Tyne."
