 The Offshore operations manager for Diamond Offshore Drilling International has been shot dead in an attempted carjacking in Brazil.

 
Peter Campsie, 48, was killed by two gunmen in Rio de Janeiro as he returned home to his family after a business meeting last Wednesday. He was shot twice as he attempted to flee to his vehicle.
 
Campsie, from Montrose, Angus, UK, had worked in Brazil for 16 years and lived in the city of Macae, north of Rio, with his wife and 10-year old daughter. He is survived by two sons and his mother, brother, and sister in Scotland.

The Press & Journal Staff have begun returning to Algeria following a terrorist siege last year – but a leading oil operators has warned it will not send expatriate workers to the site of the attack until security is improved.

 

Forty workers, including three British workers, were killed during a four-day siege at the In Amenas gas plant in Algeria last January.

BPCommissioning of new, state-of-the-art coker marks final major milestone in refinery upgrading project designed to create $1 billion per annum of additional future operating cash flow.

 

BP announced all of the major new units associated with the Whiting modernization project have been successfully brought on stream.  The start-up of the new 102,000 barrel per day coker in mid-November marked the last major milestone of the multi-year, multi-billion dollar modernisation project at the facility in Northwest Indiana.

Subsea 7 Subsea 7 is pleased to announce that Yngve Vassmyr will be the Managing Director of our new office in Tromsø. He assumes his position on January 1st 2014. 

 

 

Yngve Vassmyr comes with long experience in the oil and gas sector, in senior industry roles, and in building up organisations in the North of Norway. He worked for Statoil from 1985-2005, including as a Vice President for Global Exploration with responsibility for Norway and Western Europe and also as Operations Director for Snøhvit LNG facility during the preparation of the facilities and organisation for LNG production startup. More recently he was the CEO of Tromsø based Front Exploration, acquired by Dong Energy in 2012.

BBC The government has outlined plans to give tax breaks to companies involved in the UK's nascent shale gas industry.

It has proposed cutting the tax on some of the income generated from producing shale gas - found in underground shale rock formations - from 62% to just 30%.

 Acteon ears up for expansion with new Singapore service centre A custom-built service centre at the new Offshore Marine Centre in the Tuas industrial area of Singapore will boost Acteon operations and improve its customer service in South East Asia.

 
Due to open in July 2013, the new $11 million, 10,000-m2 Acteon Singapore Operations Centre will support the offshore operations of Acteon companies across the region. It will be the first purpose-built Acteon centre to service multiple operating companies. The base will provide engineering, design, equipment maintenance and servicing, equipment rental and sales activities for CAPE, MENCK, Conductor Installation Services (CIS), LM Handling, Aquatic Engineering & Construction Ltd. and Claxton Engineering Services.
