ROV NEWS: ROV Sonar Demo Hosted by Deep Trekker, Echolotzentrum and Halton Police

On October 2nd, Deep Trekker will team up with German Search and Rescue specialist Thomas Schlageter from Echolotzentrum Schlageter and Halton, Ontario’s Police Service’s Marine & Canine Unit to provide a ROV demonstration free of charge. The demonstration will take place at Bronte Harbour:  1151 Bronte Road, in Oakville, Ontario.  The demonstration is going to be focused on Search and Rescue operations and any Search and Rescue force is welcome to attend and learn more about the use of ROVs for these missions.

IKM Subsea Singapore has been tasked to provide ROV services onboard Solstad Offshore’s derrick lay bargeNorce Endeavour for construction support projects offshore Thailand.

Last year, Solstad Offshore confirmed that DLB Norce Endeavour would be used to install multiple new wellhead platforms for Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd., in the Gulf of Thailand during the 2015 offshore installation campaign.

ROV NEWS: India to probe Antarctic waters with ROV developed by Chennai lab

 CHENNAI: This new year, India will begin underwater expedition of the Antarctic region using a remotely operable vehicle (ROV) developed by Chennai-based National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT). Samples collected from the underbelly of icebergs, which could be millions of years old, may hold potential surprises, including clues on origin of life. 

The ROV, which is fitted with cameras and mechanical devices, will collect samples from under icebergs. It will also capture images underwater. "While the upper part of ice which is exposed to air keeps changing, the bottom part remains relatively intact. Some of the samples from the bottom of icebergs could be millions of years old," said NIOT director M A Atmanand.

 Phoenix International Phoenix International recently completed an upgrade of the U.S. Navy’s 8,000-foot depth capable remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Deep Drone.

 
All work was performed under a multi-year contract with the U.S. Navy’s Office of Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV). The upgrade included installing a new umbilical, sonar, high definition camera, LED lighting system, an updated frame, and a new foam pack. In addition, and at the heart of the upgrade, Phoenix installed a completely new Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based vehicle control system.

By creatively modifying a Saab Seaeye Falcon ROV, they were able to send the vehicle through a pipeline stretching over four kilometres under Gladstone Harbour, Queensland to Curtis Island.
